In late August 2022, I was thrilled that I would receive the Illinois Broadcasters Association's W. Russell Withers, Jr. Illinois Broadcasters Association Downstate Broadcast Pioneer Award. The award would be handed out at the Illinois Broadcasters Event on October 24, 2022.

Two other major awards were also given, one other Broadcast Pioneer Award for the Chicago market went to John Gehron (pictured-center). He was responsible for WLS Music Radio in the 1970s and early 80s. I knew his name and had seen his picture many times, but it was a special evening to not only meet him but talk with him, meet his wife, and share the Pioneer Award with him!

Another broadcast hero, one who developed MeTV which is now my favorite entertainment TV network received the IBA Broadcaster of the Year. Besides MeTV, Neil Sabin pictured above-left has developed StartTV, Heroes and Icons, Movies!, Decades, StoryTV, and MeTV-Plus along with MeTV-FM.

To be honored at the same time with these veteran broadcasters is beyond my ability to describe!

Above right- I was thrilled to share my experience with my family who attended the event hosted by the Illinois Broadcasters Association.

Mike Hulvey of Neuhoff Media is pictured at the upper right, and the picture lower left has Doug with Rick Lipps of Sinclair Broadcast Group. They are Directors of the IBA.

See more at the IBA website here.

On May 22, 2015, I was featured in Champaign-Urbana's Smile Politely. The article was written by John Milas.

"Smile Politely is Champaign-Urbana's culture magazine. We call it a magazine, even though it is all online, because it functions as such: publishing engaging editorial daily. We provide our community with passionate, trustworthy, and informed points of view on a variety of topics that are locally focused: arts, culture, food and drink, music, politics, and more. Our writers are a stable of community contributors that range widely in age and background due to the transient Champaign-Urbana population — from college undergrads to fifty-somethings, the magazine is comprised of engaged community members with an impressive array of experiences to draw from."

In June of 2016 I had a chance to meet and talk with Dick Van Dyke when he visited Danville.  After living in the Danville area since 1977, I finally met Danville's Favorite Son!

It's kinda cool having your name in a headline! Thanks to Rich Warren who pens a column in the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette on October 20, 2019, who noted some corrections I sent him concerning a recent column of his.  Rich's column is a great service to the techies in the area with information about A/V issues and of course television.... Thanks Rich!

It's always fun to discuss TV history with these two broadcast veterans, Brain Barnhart (U of I Sports Play by Play Announcer) and Mike Haile (GM of WDWS/WHMS/WKIO and "Mike in the Morning" morning host on WHMS.

This was broadcast on November 19, 2019 on "Penny for Your Thoughts" on WDWS-Radio, Champaign, IL

This was one of the most successful presentations I've done to date. A great crowd, including some WCIA former employees and personalities, along with many other local TV fans.  I'll return eventually to do it again soon!
